Incredible Antibacterial Potential of Some Plant Extracts

An article published yesterday in Phytotherapy Research shows some amazing antibacterial activity of tinctures of Spilanthes oleracea and propolis, Nigella seed oil, and an ethanolic extract of black garlic on microorganisms involved in oral diseases.

Even low concentrations of the propolis tincture  killed more than 99% of salivary bacteria, whereas Spilanthes tincture and black garlic extract killed more than 90% and Nigella seed oil more than 60% of the pathogens. These effects were seen 10 min after exposure.

This research gives a hope that there is an alternative to antibiotics that could be used for oral infections, given the dangerous rise in antibiotic resistance worldwide.
